I started working for myself in 2006 and was told to join a social networking site. I didn’t have a clue what that meant but as none of my friends were using the internet and weren’t self employed either I thought it might be a good idea to join. So I joined Ecademy and enjoyed it. LinkedIn and Twitter followed soon. I resisted Facebook for a long time but then knew I needed a Facebook page, so I joined that too.
Then, in 2010, my online friends spoke about Empire Avenue and tried to persuade me to join.
“Oh no, I don’t have time to play silly games! I’m too busy with my business and having a presence on all those other social networking sites. Besides, what do I know about shares etc? No, definitely no!!!”
In the meantime I heard of Google+, Pinterest and Quora and, of course, I had to join those, too. But Empire Avenue? No, I ‘d leave that to the boys who want to play!
I heard and learned a little about EA, Steven Healey ((e)STEVENJH) did missions on my behalf, but I still didn’t want to know. I really did not have the notion to waste spend time playing with pretend shares that weren’t worth any money. I mean, I didn’t even play with shares that WERE worth some money! No, no, no!
But then I heard how people achieved things because of missions, gained Facebook likes, had important tweets retweeted, got their new books promoted, and all because they ‘played’ on EA.
So, I had a look…………
…. and haven’t looked back. I soon realised that people weren’t ‘playing’. No, this is business … but also fun!
I have made new contacts, found out about interesting websites, blog posts, have met old friends and new, interesting people on Twitter, Facebook and Google+, and I have learned how to run missions, which in turn has been good for my business.
I enjoy wasting spending some time every evening completing other people’s missions and buying shares. I even helped Steven write the Empire Avenue Beginners Guide.
Just don’t let me near any real shares – I still wouldn’t know what to do
